Access to this delightful and tranquil back yard unit is via the front home's driveway, through a private gate, then a short private walkway. Your first impression on entering will be how new, cozy, bright, and welcoming the home is.

The first room is the combined living area, kitchen, and dining area. The couch, accompanied by a side ottoman and a coffee table, is a great place to hang out on or watch TV. The kitchen has a dishwasher, stove, oven, fridge, and microwave, as well as all the kitchenware you'd ever need. The countertops are glisteningly bright, and there is ample cupboard space.

Moving to the bedroom, you'll see a comfy queen-sized bed with end tables, a study desk. The closet, with plenty of space for your clothes and other belongings, also has extra bedding, a chest of drawers, an iron, and ironing board. The bathroom is bright, with a modern look and feel, and a glass-enclosed shower.

Outside the bedroom, separated by a sliding glass door with louvered shutters, is the back patio, with comfy furniture, including chairs, a swinging chair, and a big umbrella.

You have sole and complete access to the unit. You might see the owners, who live in the front home, as you go down the driveway to enter, but once inside, you'll have complete privacy from them, including on the back patio.

This home is located in the Shoreline West neighborhood and is often considered part of Old Mountain View. It takes only 10 minutes to walk to bustling Castro street, with its myriad of varied restaurants and coffee shops, along with a high-end grocery store, some great pubs, a classic bookstore, a wine bar, and even a tiny locksmith museum! At the end of Castro street is the train station.

Also nearby is Eagle Park, with a massive grassy field where you'll often see kids practicing soccer, people playing frisbee, or dogs frolicking. Eagle Park also has a public pool. A 15 minute walk in the other direction gets you to Rengstorff park, which has a public pool that's even nicer than the one at Eagle Park!

It's near to major thoroughfares like El Camino Real and Shoreline, highways 101 and 85 are just a five minute drive, and highway 280 is a ten minute drive.

Also just a few minutes' drive is the San Antonio shopping center, where you'll find a Trader Joes, Safeway, 24 hour fitness, and a great selection of medium-and-high-end restaurants.

Just 15 minutes' walk away there's a train station (at the end of Castro street) from which you can hop on a Caltrain to get to San Jose in 20 minutes and San Francisco in 45-70 minutes, depending on the time of day. We refer to the faster trains as "bullet trains" -- but that's a big exaggeration, since they're nothing like the bullet trains in Japan, China, Europe, etc! But at least they're faster than they used to be. You can also catch VTA trains from that same station, which gets you all around San Jose and the South Bay.

El Camino Real, about a five minute walk, has a pretty regular bus service that takes you north to Stanford, and south all the way to San Jose.

You'll have complete privacy. The property manager lives right around the block, so we can attend to any issues immediately.

The location couldn't be more perfect. Our home is right off Alameda de Las Pulgas, near Santa Cruz Ave and Sand Hill Road, making it convenient for business travelers and students visiting nearby Stanford University, Stanford Hospital, and other local companies such as SAP, VMWare, Tesla, Nest, and the VA. Venture out to explore the charming downtown Menlo Park and Palo Alto, both within easy reach of our home, which are filled with unique shops and delicious restaurants. The Stanford Shopping Center is also nearby for your shopping needs.

Our home offers a fully equipped kitchen, complete with dishware, appliances, and everything you need to cook a delicious meal. Enjoy the lovely back yard, perfect for relaxing or outdoor activities. Our guests appreciate the convenience of having no check-out chores. Simply put the keys away on your way out!

Note that the back of the house has two stories, and on the second story there is a second rental unit. It's a one-bedroom apartment with a full-time tenant -- a scientist at SLAC. By the terms of his lease, the tenant is not allowed to use the back yard, so that's all yours. The tenant enters the property via the side yard to the left of the home, and you'll rarely have any interaction or even notice him.

West Menlo Park is a classic neighborhood, filled with a mix of old and new homes of all sizes. Half a block from the home is Alameda de las Pulgas, a main artery. Several blocks away is the border with neighboring Atherton. Sand Hill Road is a few minutes' drive, and Stanford University, Stanford Hospital, and Stanford Shopping Center are only a few minutes further.

While there is a bus line that runs on Alameda de las Pulgas, public transit in this area isn't great, so you'll definitely need a car, or use Uber or Lyft.

Perched on a hill, this home has 2 floors, connected by an interior staircase, but the door at the bottom of the staircase can be locked from both sides, meaning the 2 floors can be completely separate living homes, perfect for an extended family, an au-pair, or a separate work area. So you have two choices in how you configure the home:

-- As a 2-story ~3000 sq ft home with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 1 full kitchen and 1 half kitchen, 2 complete living areas, and 2 large decks with sweeping views.
or
-- As a duplex with each home on a different floor. The top floor has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a living area, and a large deck. The bottom floor has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a *half* kitchen, a living area, and a large deck.

Note that we are renting the property as one entire unit, not two. We are not renting each floor as a separate unit.

Now we'll describe each floor ...

The top floor is ~1800 sq ft and is accessed by walking down a flight of stairs from the street level and garage parking. The entryway opens into a large open floor plan with a new granite-countertop kitchen and a living area which opens onto the huge wraparound deck. Also in the living area is the set of stairs that leads down to the bottom floor. Further down the hallway are 2 bedrooms: The first is the primary bedroom, which has an attached full bathroom and opens onto the deck. The second bedroom is smaller, has a Murphy bed, and can work as an office. There is a separate second bathroom as well as a washer/dryer set.

The bottom floor is ~1200 sq ft, and you enter it either via the staircase leading down from the top floor, or from the outside by going down a second set of stairs. This floor has a similar layout to the top floor. There is an open-floor plan, with a wonderful combined *half* kitchen (no stove or oven) and living area opening onto the outside deck. Down the hallway are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a washer/dryer. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom, while the second bedroom and bathroom are both smaller.

Again, to make sure this is clear, we are renting the property as *one* unit, not two. As described above, tenants have 2 options in how to configure and use the home: as one 4-bedroom home, or as 2 separate 2-bedroom homes.
