Hewitt & Brown designed the Beaux-Arts-style building. The wedge shape was inspired by Hewitt’s time studying in France. The exterior is gray Bedford limestone & brick. The front entrance style is called “Palladian loggia”—a porch recessed behind a tall archway flanked by paired ionic columns.

The mural in the front lobby depicting the history of Minnesota and the marble floor is from the original 1920s building. The carved medallions on the outside columns are also original. The exterior has been largely unchanged. The stately president’s office and conference room from 1934 also remains and can be rented as an apartment today. Equal Housing Opportunity.
